Chicago’s very own Reeling: The Chicago Lesbian & Gay International Film Festival, second largest LGBT film festival put forward a press release advising that it would be going on hiatus in 2012.
Sadly for many of us in the community, while we can understand the decision we were left saddened and feeling a void. Thus, a very small number of individuals from different backgrounds in the community came together and put fourth ideas on how to come up with an alternative solution to fill this void felt in the community. And with sheer passion and dedication the Little Queer Film Festival was born.
The Little Queer Film Festival will be a smaller intimate experience with alternative venues. The venues showcasing films will be more conductive to social/mingling and conversation while providing a space where the community as a whole can participate. Our goal is to provide a contemporary approach with films that touch on a wide range of issues.
The Little Queer Film Festival plans to showcase six to eight films with the help of funding from the community, sponsors and the hard work of volunteers. All funds collected will be spent on the production of the festival i.e. advertising, marketing materials, theater rentals, film screening fees, licensing agreements etc. Any overage of funds would go toward special screening events held in the future.
Please consider making a contribution to help ensure that we deliver poignant and thought-provoking films that document LGBT lives truthfully and with respect. The gift you make today will transform within and outside our community. They’re not just movies, they’re a way to change the world.
Thank you and we hope to see you at one of our events.
